Whether you're rocking a red carpet or you're taking a stroll on the sidewalk, you always want to look your best and that includes your wardrobe. What you wear can have a huge impact on how high your confidence level is and if can also effect your mood. For example, if you wear a dress you feel cute and comfortable in, you are most likely going to be in a bright and positive mood but if you feel restricted and you think the dress accentuates your hips or another self conscious part about your body, you are going to feel embarrassed or shy.
Rule #1: Have it be comfortable
When you buy a piece of clothing you are going to want to wear and re-wear that item for as long as you can until it doesn't fit you any more or your style changes. Now keeping that in mind, you are going to want to keep whatever piece of clothing you buy to be of nice material because you are not going to want to wear it if it is scratchy or annoying. For me, leggings from PINK are my go-to for any outfit so I have a few of them on my shelf if I ever need one.
Rule #2: Make sure it is the right size for you
This is one of my top rules because I cannot tell you how many clothes I have bought but don't exactly fit and I have never worn. I have bought so many tops and pants that are small but I have said I will lose weight and then I will be able to fit into them but I never am able to. Also, if you have a preference if you like your clothes to be small, big, or just right that can influence your shopping too. Overall you should get a piece of clothing expecting to fit into it if you lose weight or growing into it because it might not happen and you would just be wasting your money.
Rule #3: Reasonable Price
Imagine if you see a piece of clothing that is both comfortable and a good size but it is WAYY over your budget. You are going to have to decide whether you want it bad enough. Some pieces are justifiable like jackets you can wear over anything or shoes you can wear with any outfit but if it is something you are going to wear one a week or once a month, you might want to think a little bit more about spending the money. This rule applies for everyone but it does differentiate on what kind of budget you have. If you have a tight one, this rule may be more strict on you than someone who can be more free with their money. If you are not sure about it, do not impulse buy it like most people and regret it later. Wait around a week and see if you still want the item of clothing bad enough you are willing to make another trip just to go get it and if you do, go buy it but if you don't, wait a little bit longer and see what happens.
Rule #4: Keep it your style, not someone elses
There are definitely times where a certain clothing item is popular but it may not be your style. I would suggest not buying it. Once the trend fades you are going to be stuck with the item you are never going to want to wear. I recommend that you do not purchase an item like this unless you truly think you want it. If you think you do, you should refer back to the system in the last rule about waiting a certain amount of days before you buy the item.
Rule #5: Add Accessories
No matter what type of outfit you have chosen you can almost always dress it up or down with accessories or shoes. If you want your outfit to appear dressier you will want to pair it with either larger earrings, a statement necklace, a bracelet, or rings. You could wear multiple of those items to really dress it up. Some good places for cheap but good jewelry is Forever 21 or H&M. If you want to spend a little more money or your jewelry Express or Charming Charlies are good choices.
The earrings above are $2.90 and the gorgeous ring set is $4.90
